"Gestalt Therapy provides a solid and flexible loom on which to weave my creativity, humor and use of metaphor in meeting the other. I see connection between healing the self and healing the world. As someone who came of age in the '60s, I strongly believe that the personal is political, and vice-versa. Gestalt Theory and Therapy can be powerful, holistic and revolutionary."

Biography

Before entering the world of Gestalt, Laurie was a professional singer specializing in music of the Renaissance and Baroque and a founding member of the Philadelphia Singers. Drawn to social work by the devastation of the arts and gay communities by the AIDS pandemic, she obtained her MSS from Bryn Mawr before completing her training at GTIP. With an independent practice in center city and Erdenheim, her interests include mood disorders, chronic illness, trauma, grief, relational difficulties, women's and gay/lesbian issues.

Debra Brosan, M.A., O.D.
"As an Organizational Development Consultant, my work over the past several years has led me to the Theory of Gestalt Therapy and its’ humanistic interventions and strategies to enhance meaningfulness in work. I have integrated the Theory of Gestalt Therapy in working with leadership, teams and individuals as a coach and consultant. Meaningful work is (and is not limited to) acknowledging and buying into the purpose of the organization, alignment of organizational and individual visions, clarity of values and beliefs that mobilize oneself within the organization and job satisfaction. The vehicle and process that I use for achieving this is by helping my clients identify how they see themselves in their systems, as well as the systems-as-a-whole."

Biography

Debra is currently working internally for a non-profit educational agency as the Organizational and Leadership Consultant. With over 25 years in industry and non-profit organizations, Debra has applied her business experience to organizational development and completed graduate education in this field. Donna Cotzen , M.D.
"There are many things I have come to love about Gestalt Therapy. First, the clarity and simplicity of the theory is elegant. Second, it takes the truth that I have learned from psychoanalysis and makes it deeper and three dimensional. I can see the theory in action instead of forcing understanding with my left brain ,which was not really understanding with my whole self. And lastly, it gives me a personal philosophy and guide of how to live my life that leads to engagement and happiness while bringing me into a community of therapists who are fun, warm, intelligent and interested in their own personal growth as well as the growth of their clients. I am stimulated by the people I meet here who are open to new experience, willing to be vulnerable and courageous enough to explore the unknown."

"What I valued most in my Gestalt training was the primary emphasis on the present and how to use myself to support the client to trust him or herself to attend to what was manifesting in the moment. Body awareness, breathing and the courage to risk expressing what the client is feeling was deemed essential in learning how to become free. Being playful and using humor has enabled me and my clients to relax, understand and accept the incongruities of human behavior. More recently, I have become interested in how compassion helps dissolve the bind of shame and other forms of emotional pain."

Frank is in private practice in center-city Philadelphia and Bala Cynwyd, PA, working with individuals, couples, groups and families.
